How to play
Every day you get ten quick questions about Canada and the United States. Some show a real town name, a brand, a food, a word or an invention, and you decide whether it comes from Canada or the USA. Others show two similar things side by side, and you pick the Canadian one. On a keyboard, use the left and right arrow keys. Each answer is revealed right away with a short fact and a link to where we checked it. After ten rounds you get a score out of ten and a spoiler-free result you can share with friends.

Why is it called Toque or Beanie?
Because it’s the friendliest way to tell the two countries apart. Both words mean the same cozy knitted winter hat: most Canadians call it a toque (a word borrowed from French), and most Americans call it a beanie. Same hat, two names — just like a lot of the things in this game. Tap Toque if you think the answer is Canada and Beanie if you think it’s the USA.
Does everyone get the same questions?
Yes. The daily set is picked from the calendar date, so everyone who plays on the same date sees the same ten questions in the same order. A new set appears at midnight in your local time. You can play each daily set once, and if you leave in the middle you can pick up where you left off.
How do you decide whether something is Canadian or American?
A brand counts only if it was founded in that country and has never been owned from the other side of the border or overseas. A food counts where the dish got its name and form. An invention counts only if the inventor and the place it was made are from the same country. If the answer is disputed, we leave the question out.
Where do the towns come from?
Town names come from the GeoNames database and have at least 5,000 residents. Names that exist in both countries, like London or Windsor, are left out so every question has one right answer.
How do streaks work?
Your streak grows by one for each day in a row that you finish the game. Miss a day and it starts again from zero.
